Random thoughts #8_Veganism

I'd like to assume that you don't come to this blog for veganism, you probably like my random rants (hopefully). But here I am writing a post about veganism.

I've been going vegetarian for like 3-4 months now. I might go vegan but it's a little more challenging so I guess I have to wait and see how it goes.
I was one of those who think that being a vegetarian or a vegan sucks. Because there are so many foods that they don't get to try. I'm not gonna lie that we get to eat everything because obviously we don't but it doesn't suck.
I became vegetarian not for health problems but because I watched a few documentaries and I just don't feel right eating meat anymore. I think whether you're a meat eater or vegetarian/ vegan it's your choice and it's very essential that your choice is respected. Being a vegetarian/vegan is not the equivalent to being someone that is better than meat eaters. If they choose to eat meat, I shall respect it and vice versa.
The thing about veganism is that it's supposed to be a thing to save the animals and the earth. But what took me quite a while to decide to go vegetarian is that there are some aggressive vegans/vegetarians out there who just keep telling the others what to do. I did not know that there are that many arguments and tension in the vegan/vegetarian world. The soy argument, the palm oil argument,.. etc. I thought that as long as the food is vegan/vegetarian then people can just eat it. I did not aware of the unnecessary complex that people are implying about certain topics.
Another thing that just sometimes does not make sense is that a lot of the tensions seized up by people revolve around whether it's healthy or not to eat certain foods. I guess it can be portrayed as something on the educational side but how people address it is rather unpleasing to look at. I never knew being a vegan/vegetarian often come along with being a "nutritionist" or like some sort of health "expert". Someone please enlighten me.
The last thing that really upsets me is that the social pressure on vegans/vegetarians. People always have that kind of misconception of prejudice toward vegans/vegetarians. It's either we're trying to loose weight/ being "unnecessarily  healthy" (wth does that even mean?) or we're just trying to be saint. Not to mention those who saying that plants have feelings and eating them is the equivalent with eating meat. In the midst of my current vegetarian journey, I have experienced plenty of those which totally caught me off guard. I did not expect people to have such negativity about my lifestyle choice. My parents are pretty chill, they just worried that I might not have enough nutrients to fuel my body but I explained to them and they now worry that once I come back to VN they don't know what to treat me because the options are now limited (haha). However, other than that they still support me and started to learn more about vegetarian cooking from my uncle who has been vegetarian for almost 10 years. But my aunt (who I'm living with) is not very supportive. I remember she once told me why don't I just go to a temple and become a monk instead. She often jokes about me trying to a saint/monk by not eating meat and sometimes she went little (very, tbh) brutal about those jokes. It makes me so uncomfortable. Not to mention the conversation I had at a family dinner the other day about veganism. They were kinda pissed that I did not eat anything because that place was not a very vegetarian friendly restaurant.
"Just eat your god damn meal and leave me alone for my sake!" That was what I was screaming inside but of course I was just smiling and not saying anything the whole time because I did not want to be "disrespectful" even though  they were being disrespectful to me. LOL what kind of bullshit was that.
Anyways, this is quite a long rant. My point is whatever you are please respect others' lifestyle choice like how you want yours to be respected. Don't just go around and shit on people's choices just because theirs are different from yours.
Thank you for coming to my random rant of the day.
