My vegan story (collab with Gabriel_Vugon)

Hello wonderful people, I'm back. I believe this is the second post on my blog about veganism and this time since some are curious, I'll give you my vegan story. But first, let me tell you something exciting. This a collab with my dear friend @gabriel_vugon. He's a very close friend of mine and he's the only vegan I know. Yes, you didn't read it wrong. I only know one vegan (what a sad vegan life). But he's fantastic. I'm not saying this because he's my friend but he has some awesome stuff on his blog so check him out. He's funny and relatable. We're gonna each tell you our vegan stories and then we'll answer some questions that you asked on my instagram the other day so you'll have two stories and perspectives on whatever you're curious about. So click here when you're done reading this post to check out his work.

I've been vegetarian/vegan(ish) for about a year. Let me make this clear. When I was vegetarian I don't eat eggs or milk directly. In other words, I don't eat fried/poached/boiled egg nor drink milk straight from the cup. However, I gave myself the pleasure of having some non-vegan bake goods every now and then. I also did eat yogurt since I couldn't find dairy free yogurt near my place. So to sum up, I was mostly vegan but sometimes I fell off the vegan train and let it ran over me. I've been officially vegan for about 3-4 months and there isn't any dramatic change from when I was vegetarian.
Now since we have the basics done I reckon we should move on the the more in depth story.
I decided not to eat meat last year around this time. The reason is quite simple, I just happened to watched a documentary from folks over knives. How come? It showed up as a sponsored post on my instagram. The documentary was rather terrifying. I became vegetarian literally overnight after watching it. Highly recommended. It's eye-opening.
I'm not that vegan who said "Well, I didn't even like meet to begin with." I loved meat. Korean BBQ was my jam. At that time, I just wanted to try it out. I thought maybe I should go vegetarian for 1 week. After 1 week I reckon it was easier than I thought so I tried it for another week and until I realized how much time had passed it had already been a few months. When I first started I always said to people that I'd eat meat again if I really wanted to eat it. But since I didn't really want to eat it, I didn't. The reason why I cut dairy completely later on is because I'm lactose intolerant. Since I'm such an educated person I'll spill some knowledge about what is lactose intolerance. It's a food sensitivity towards a hormone, "lactose", found in dairy products. And guess what studies show that 75% of the world's population is lactose intolerant. So maybe you are too but you just don't know or don't care. If you're lactose intolerant, this hormones will mess with the hormones in your bodies causing digestive issues, diarrhea, hormonal acne and period problems (if you're a girl). So cutting dairy is a pretty wise choice. I really see the change in my skin and my digestion.
However, I personally think that going vegan isn't as significant as staying vegan. Because it is a lifestyle. I was a meat lover. When I order pizza it's either meat lover or the supreme pizza, I love Korean BBQ and soup noodles in all shapes and forms. I seriously thought I would only make it for 1 week but it's already been 1 year and I'm gonna continue as long as possible (forever). It's actually not hard as long as you take it easy. Everything takes time. Also I think it is very crucial to make the connection with animal cruelty as well as the environment. You could be a depressed and sad person who couldn't care less about the well being of anyone and anything but yourself. However, maybe (definitely) it's time for a change. Trust me, I was that person. Being vegan doesn't make me a energetic, happy and cheerful person but at least I know I'm doing something right for the world. At least my miserable self doesn't seem that miserable. I feel better about myself for not having to kill or harm anything just to satisfy my tatstebuds which could totally be satisfied by eating plants.
Now why should you also jump on the vegan train?
1. Animals
If I told you to kill a chicken so that you can make a meal out of it, I'd bet my life you wouldn't. Even if you killed the goddamn chicken , it's hard to swallow your food later thinking about the torture you caused. Let's be real, just because somebody else caused the bleed, it doesn't make it ok for you to eat it.
2. Health
We all know eating vegetables is better for our health. That's why people usually have their animal-based meal with vegetables as the sides to "balance" everything. You can totally make vegetables your meal instead of just having it has a side dish. Ever since I had more vegetables daily, there's no such thing as constipation (believe me there were times it was a huge problem), horrible digestive issues and horrible skin.
3. Environment
You may not know but it takes so much more resources to produce the same amount of animal-based products compare to plants. Let's be more mindful. We need to change to make the world a better place. Not that I'm so passionate about saving the world but I also don't wanna die ugly. I want to die in a bed of roses with the spring breeze not in a polluted dump yard. You should check out "what would happen if the whole world go vegetarian?" by ASAP science for more in depth info.
I would say for me it's relatively easy. Of course I still have to deal with a few obnoxious social issues and stupid questions. But it doesn't bother me that much. My family is quite supportive. My friends are also supportive. I think if one shows a positive attitude from having this lifestyle then there won't be anyone not supporting it.
No one is qualified to judge you and how your lifestyle except for yourself.
Be more mindful about your choices and start with what's on your plate.
